There are endless lighting options with the Spot – the struggle is remembering how to find them. There are two white lights, which can either be on at the same time or separately. The bigger of the two can be dimmed, by holding down the main button, while the smaller can be used as a strobe (three clicks). There’s also a red light.

You can lock the torch so it stays on any function (hold down the main button for four seconds), and there’s also a special sensor on the side, called the Power Tap, for switching between the two main lights. Phew. On max setting, the headtorch has a range of 80m and a whopping burn time of 50 hours; this goes up to 200 hours on the lowest setting.

The torch takes three AAA batteries (always easy to find replacements) and with batteries in weighs just 92g. It’s waterproof, and comfy and secure on the head. I found all the lighting options complicated, but it’s solid, light and compact, and a good price.
