The Burton AK Stagger pants are two-layer boarding trousers that use a fully taped Gore-Tex Performance Shell to protect you from the elements. The pants have a mesh lining to protect the Gore-Tex membrane from abrasion and to keep the trousers comfortable against your skin. In places where bumps are likely (bum and knees) the trousers feature a softer lining.

The trousers come with six pockets, and the two main ones are lined with a nice fleece fabric. All pockets have been designed to keep the wet out, either through storm flaps or water resistant zips. The trousers have a really comfortable fit, the mesh lining is comfy against the skin and while they’re not too baggy, they allow room for a base layer to be worn. They’re surprisingly warm even though they’re quite light weight, so if you find yourself over-heating they have ventilation zips on the upper thigh, with mesh ventilation and a new ‘Test-I-Cool’ ventilation zip technology (geddit?). The snow gaiter at the ankles features a boot hook to keep snow out and to stop them riding up. I was surprised with how light these were for board trousers, which is always an added bonus.

Of course it doesn’t matter how good these trousers are, there’s one thing that’s likely to put many off buying, and that’s the £260 price tag. But if you have the money, they’re a great buy.

In a line: Superb, comfortably fitting pants using Gore-Tex Performance Shell
