Snowdonia based Gelert has been making affordable tents for 35 years, and I can remember using its products  as a child when camping with the family. The Stealth 2 is a three-poled tunnel tent that’s pitched flysheet first, with the inner attaching via a number of easy-to-use attachment hoops. Pitching the Stealth 2 is about as easy as it gets for a non free-standing tent (one that won’t stand up until you’ve put some pegs in) and the process is helped by the colour coordinated poles which mean you get it right the first time you try.

Once up the tent has a large footprint (nearly 4m x 2m) and the space is split nicely between the sleeping and porch area, with the vestibule being one of the biggest I’ve seen. A nice touch is the addition of a separate groundsheet for the porch, which can be taken out if you’d like to save on weight. Our two rucksacks looked tiny in the massive porch, and there was more than enough room to cook, sit and party.

The sleeping area, on the other hand, is a bit low, but long enough to stretch out and wide enough to sleep two in comfort. There are two storage pockets (one on each side) that are a decent size and will hold most of your valuables. While there’s adequate space between the flysheet and the inner, there aren’t many peg points around the tent to keep the material taught, which is a surprise considering the amount of pegs you’re supplied with. I’d like to have seen peg points along the tent walls to hold the tent floor out, and to keep the walls from flapping around in wind.

All in all the Stealth 2 is a great, budget, two-man tent that will do the job if you’re doing some casual  camping. But at 4.2kg it might be a bit heavy to carry on multi day walks.

In a line: A brilliant porch and a comfortable sleeping area, but would like more peg points.
