This is a great shoe for a good price. It’s light (about 625g per pair, size 6.5), with The North Face suggesting it brings a running shoe feel to the outdoor world. It’s also waterproof, with a Gore-Tex upper membrane, and this comes at a good price. And both the light weight and the shoe’s casual looks mean it’s good for everyday use as well as on trail, to me a handy feature in a hiking shoe.

Most of the shoe’s upper is abrasion resistant mesh which, as well as helping to keep the weight down, adds to the breathability of the shoe. The sole is Vibram, and although the lugs aren’t as deep as some of the tougher shoes on test, it will still offer good support and grip. There’s extra protection at the toe, again not as sturdy as some but still offering good protection. The shoe is comfy, with TNF’s Cradle Guide midsole giving a nice combination of cushioning and support, and it comes in a choice of three colours.

I’ve worn TNF’s hiking shoes in the past and they’ve always performed well and, new this year, the Hedgehog Fastpack Lite GTX is another good addition to the collection. There’s also a non-waterproof version of the shoe available (for £100) which is a bit lighter, although living in the UK I’d always go for the waterproof version. I’d be happy wearing it travelling, around town and for all but the toughest hikes – a nice, light hiking shoe.

In a line: Light, waterproof and a good price
